John "Jack" Borg Obituary
John "Jack" Pfaff Borg, 94, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025 at 21:26, surrounded by loved-ones in Memphis, Tennessee. A devoted family man, accomplished pharmacist, and lifelong craftsman and outdoorsman, Jack lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, creativity, and deep-rooted faith.
Born on October 3rd, 1930, Jack began his education at Idlewild School before attending Sacred Heart for grade school, then Christian Brothers College for high school. He pursued pre-pharmacy studies at Memphis State College and went on to earn his pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. His dedication to healthcare led him to become the owner and pharmacist of Borg Pharmacy-a cornerstone of care in the community where he served generations with compassion and expertise.
Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a combat medic at the Medical Replacement Training Center in Camp Pickett, Virginia. His military service exemplified his lifelong commitment to helping others.
A man of many talents and interests, Jack was a true artisan at heart. Whether working with wood or leather, embroidering intricate designs by hand, writing thoughtfully crafted pieces, or brewing his own creations-he approached every endeavor with passion and precision. With the heart of an explorer, he biked across the Yucatan Peninsula and most of Europe in his early adulthood. As a father, he adventured across the continental US with his loving family in tow. He found joy in canoeing along quiet waters, writing books of his adventures and interests, tending to his garden with care, tanning hides with traditional skill, beating his grandchildren in tennis, and casting lines while fishing-each hobby reflecting his love for nature and humanity.
Jack's greatest pride was his family. He shared a loving marriage with Marion. Together they raised four children: Caroline Gilmore (Keith Gilmore), George Borg (Charity Gail Borg), Bettie Card (Christopher Card), and John Borg (Lori Borg). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Stephanie Gilmore, Preston Gilmore, Julia Curtis (Dylan), Matt Borg, Michelle Borg, Jack Denman Borg, Keisha Card (Hunter Pipes), Kiersten Card, Macklin Card, Rachael Borg, Evelyn Borg, and great-grandchildren Jack Curtis, Sybil Card Pipes and Emelia Katherine Curtis.
He also held dear his extended family members including sister-in-law Jo Ann Gatti Johnson, and niece Mary Jennifer Johnson.
Jack was preceded in death by many beloved family members who shaped his life: grandparents Caroline Schorr, George Pfaff and Minnie Fritz Pfaff, Uncle Arthur Pfaff, Aunt Erna Fritson Pfaff, cousin Jerry Pfaff, parents John Borg and Caroline Borg, brother-in-law Clarence "Chuck" George Johnson Jr., daughter-in-law Charity Gail Borg, granddaughter-in-law Tara Borg, father-in-law Joe Gatti, mother-in-law Marion Thomas, and cherished caretaker Lucille Qualls.
A faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a staunch supporter of the St. Vincent DePaul Society throughout his life, Jack's spiritual devotion provided strength and guidance through every chapter of his journey.
In honoring Jack's memory, may we celebrate a life rich in purpose, a man who healed through medicine, fixed broken hearts and anything else in his woodshop, nurtured growth both in gardens and souls alike-and above all else loved deeply.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and his life be an example for everyone.
